Masters Thesis
I used a mixed-method approach to contrast the roles of urban community farms and community gardens in the urban ecosystem and the food justice movement. The research utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and an online survey to compare food access and crop diversity of urban community gardens versus urban community farms in the San Francisco Bay Area. Using proximity as a partial indicator of access, I examined whether urban community farms or gardens are more accessible to low-income households. Survey responses from urban community agriculturalists were used to assess dietary diversity and the cultural influence of crop plantings. I am currently in the process of publishing in a peer review journal, you can find my abstract here.
